The kitchen area at Fair Lane (including Butler's Pantry, Pastry Pantry and Kitchen) is in the process of complete restoration!
Our researchers found that in 1932, the areas were dramatically altered including the installation of a steel sink, cabinets and new linoleum.
As we return the estate back to how it looked in 1919, we have started removing the new elements and restoring finishes, flooring and furnishings to its original design.
You can now see in the above photo the spaces where the original door opening to what was once a pots and pans closet, a window and a radiator alcove had been bricked in!
In addition, we also uncovered the original linoleum pattern from more than 100 years ago. Our staff will work to find a vendor to replicate the pattern.
